SRI YAGNA BIOCHEMISTRY FORUM
Sri Yagna Biochemistry Forum has been functioning since 2003. To inculcate knowledge in the emerging areas in Biochemistry, the Forum has organized many seminars, symposiums and exhibitions. Eminent resource persons from reputed institutions delivered lectures on bioinformatics, biosensors, gene technology, tissue culture, pollution, global warming, minerals, etc. To exhibit students creativity and innovation exhibitions on topics like Germ cell therapy, AIDS awareness, Herbal medicines are conducted. Dr. V. Yagna Narayanan, retired scientist, Baba Atomic Research Centre acted as the guiding star for our Forum. To honour the scientist, the Forum is named as Sri Yagna Biochemistry Forum.
Activities
Annual Report for the year 2016-17- A Seminar on ABCD-2016 (Advanced Bio Chem Development) was organized on 26th December 2016 at Nivedita Hall. Dr.S.Selvarani, Principal presided over the function. Students and faculty members presented papers on Nutritional Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biomolecules.
- A Seminar on ABCD-2015 (Advanced Bio Chem Development) was organized on 11th Febuary 2016 at Nivedita Hall. Dr.S.Selvarani, Principal presided over the function. Students and faculty members presented papers on “Nutritional Biochemistry”.
- Two-Day National Level Conference MEGA-2014 (Mathematical Excellence Gear Advancement) was held on 8th and 9th August 2014. Dr.S.SelvaRani, Principal delivered presidential address. Dr.S.Muralisankar, Associate professor of Mathematics, Madurai Kamaraj University delivered inaugural address on “Stability Analysis”. Dr.P.SamJohnson, Asst. professor of Mathematics, National Institute of Technology, Karnataka delivered a special lecture on ‘Determinants- Properties and Applications’. Technical Sessions were chaired by Dr.S.SelvaRani, Principal, SSNCW, Amaravathipudur, Dr.N.Anbazhagan, Associate professor of Mathematics, Alagappa University, Mrs.P.Bharathi, Faculty of Mathematics, SSNCW, Dr.N.Sridharan, Prof.&Head of Mathematics (Rtd), AU on topics ‘Applications of Algebra’, ‘A Retrial Inventory System’ and ‘Graph Labeling’ respectively. More than 300 students participated.
- A two-day State level seminar ‘ABCD-2013’ (Advanced Bio Chem Development) was held on 21 & 22nd August 2013. Dr.S.SelvaRani, Principal, presided over the function.
Dr.S.Karuthapandian, Dean of Research, Prof & Head of Biotechnology, Alagappa University delievered inaugural Address. Dr.J.Jeyakanthan, Prof & Head of Bioinformatics,
Alagappa University delivered Special Address on “Structural Biology and Biocomputing”.
In the Afternoon Session Dr.N.Vijayanand Asst. Prof & Head, Dept of Botany, APSA College, Thiruppattur delivered Special Address on “Breakthroughs in Biotechnology” and acted as Chair person for Technical Sessions. Faculty members and students from our College presented papers. Faculty members and 12 students from Dr. Umayal Ramanathan, College for Women, Karaikudi, SeethaLakshmi Aachi College for Women, Pallathur, Paramakudi Arts and Science College, Paramakudi, Arumugam Pillai Seethai Ammal College, Thiruppattur and from various affiliated Colleges presented papers.
On Second day Dr.V.Muralikrishnan, Asst.Prof of Biochemistry, Paramakudi Arts College. (Member of Biochemistry Research Cell, SSNCW) delivered Special Address on “Herbal plants in curing diseases”. Prof. N. Janakiraman, Dept.of Zoology (Rtd), SSA College, Devakottai chaired the Technical Session. Many students from our College and affiliated Colleges presented papers. - A herbal garden with 100 medicinal plants has been formed and maintained by students. An inter- departmental Seminar was conducted on various applications of herbal products and their therapeutic uses.
- An essay writing competition on the topic “Clone and Design” was conducted on 14th November 2013. Many students participated & prizes were awarded.
