SHAKESPEARE CLUB

The Shakespeare Club has been functioning since 2003, organizing Inter-Collegiate Seminars and Conferences. Essay competitions, Elocution Competitions, Debates, etc. are conducted to exhibit the talents and capabilities of the students. The club equips the students with a sound knowledge of literature and makes them to be a literarian. Further, students are moulded to excel in their linguistic skills.

Annual report for the year 2016-17
  • An inter-departmental seminar was organized on 3rd January 2017 at Nivedita Hall. Dr.S.Selvarani, Principal presided over the function. Students and faculty members presented papers on the topic’Society and Literature’. Dr.N.Kalaidasan, Head, Department of English, Professor N.Krishnamoorthy, Ms. J.Augustina, faculty of English, chaired the technical sessions.

  • State Level Workshop on ‘ELITE- 2015’ (English Learning Ignites Triumphant Excellence) was held on 19th August 2015. Dr.S.SelvaRani, Principal delivered presidential address. Dr.M.Selvam, Chairman, School of Management, Alagappa University delivered inaugural address. Dr.S.Kanagaraj, Prof & Head(Rtd), Dept. of English, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai delivered the Key-note address. Dr.N.Kalaithasan, PG Prof. & Head, Dept of English, SSNC, Dr.L.Thirunavukkarsu, visiting professor, SSNC, Prof.N.Krishnamoorthy, Faculty of English spoke on topics ‘Imaginative Flight to Realms of Gold’, ‘Indian Writing in English’, ‘English through Dramas’ respectively. Scholars from Alagappa University, Faculty members and Students from various affiliated Colleges participated.
  • On 7.9.2015 a guest lecture programme on “Literature and Psychology: Literature and Sociology” was conducted. Prof.A.Ayyaswamy, Rtd. Prof of English, Loyala College delivered special address.

  • Two –day National level Seminar on ‘ELITE- 2014’ (English Learning Ignites Triumphant Excellence) was held for two days 20th & 21th August 2014. Dr.S.SelvaRani, Principal delivered presidential address. Dr.V.Lakshmanan, Dean, Prof. of English (Rtd), Honorary Visiting Faculty, University of Dodoma, Republic of Tanzania delivered the inaugural address on ‘New Literatures’. Dr.M.R.Chandran, Dean, Academic Affairs-Arts, Saraswathi Narayanan College, Madurai delivered the special address on ‘Feminism in New Literature’. Technical Sessions were chaired by Dr.L.Thirunavukkarsu, visiting professor, SSNCW, Dr.N.Kalaithasan, PG Prof. & Head, Dept of English, SSNCW, Prof.N.Krishnamoorthy, Faculty of English on topics ‘Canadian Literature’, ‘Black Literature and Indian Writing in English’ respectively. Scholars from Alagappa University, Faculty members and Students from various affiliated Colleges presented papers.
